Visitors to Vancouver's popular Granville Island can now virtually explore and navigate everything available to do and see on the Island, all by using their handheld PDA.
VANCOUVER April 7, 2005
Visitors to the Island will be able to use hand-held PDAs to take pictures, send postcards to friends and family and record their reviews of local restaurants and stores. They will also be able to access location-specific information about the history and activities of Granville Island as explained by a local historian and navigate their way around the shops and services on the Island.
As Julie Zilber, Co-Director of 7th Floor Media, explains, "re:call will enable visitors of Granville Island to create a time-stamped personal journal of the places they visit, complete with historical and professional facts, community comments, and personal notes and pictures. The objective is to create a more dynamic, fulfilling experience for visitors to Granville Island, using emerging technology."
ulie Zilber led this research and development prototyping project, and 7th Floor Media developed the client application. Network partners Exponentia and Tejinder Randhawa developed the content management server and the location-detection server, respectively.
The device will be available free of charge to visitors during its initial launch period from April 7th to 17th, 2005.
