7th Floor Media a Finalist in the 14th Annual Flashforward Film Festival in New York

VANCOUVER June 15, 2005

Documentary Lens/Objectif Documentaire, a new web resource designed by 7th Floor Media for the National Film Board of Canada, has been selected as a finalist in the 14th annual Flash Film Festival to be held in New York on July 7, 2005. The Festival is the longest running and most prestigious international competition showcasing the best in interactive web design featuring work from the largest agencies around the world.

Documentary Lens/Objectif Documentaire is an innovative educational web space devoted to documentary filmmaking. The site features an online library of 86 selected films in both English and French dating from the 1940s to the 1990s as well as supporting materials, such as the original promotional posters that were created for the films. Included are 50 English and 50 French film excerpts and access to the complete films online. Documentary Lens is designed to help students hone their critical thinking skills while learning the basics of documentary cinema. Detailed teachers' guides and interactive tools encourage students to explore the art of storytelling and documentary making and to think critically about the vision of Canada represented in the films. Interviews with NFB filmmakers allow students a look into the process of creating documentary films and the skills required to bring ideas to the screen.

"We are thrilled to be finalists for such a prestigious award," says 7th Floor Media co-director Noni Maté. "Working with the resources and expertise of the National Film Board was truly inspiring."
